A Hawaii Cruise - Perfect for the First Time Hawaii Vacationer!

If you've never been to Hawaii and are thinking about taking your next vacation there, a cruise may be just the ticket to your vacationing paradise. In fact, even if you've already been to the Islands, you might still find that cruising is the way to go.

There are many reasons why cruising is the choice for many vacationers, and should be your first choice, especially if this is your first trip to Hawaii and you just don't know which island to go to.

One of the main benefits to a Hawaii cruise is that you are able to visit just about every one of the main islands. One of the problems many Hawaii vacationers have is that they can't decide on which island to visit. If you think about it, once you decide you want to go to Hawaii, the next logical step in your vacation planning is to figure out which island you want to spend your time on. The great thing about a cruise is that you don't have to decide. You get a little taste of each of the islands! And, if it's your first time in Hawaii, this allows you to check out each island so that next time you decide to go to Hawaii, you can spend your entire vacation on your favorite island.

Another great benefit of a cruise is that they are all-inclusive. About the only thing that the package does not include is alcohol and off-ship excursions. There is food constantly being offered all day long, and if you're on the ship, it's free! And, every night, you'll get a very nice dinner. That is one thing about cruises that everybody raves about - the dinners. Every ship is different, but one thing that is common is that the dinners are exceptionally good. We're talking steak, lobster, shrimp, pasta, and more. And, it's usually a 5 course meal - appetizer, soup, salad, main course, and dessert.

Besides food, all-inclusive also includes entertainment, nightly shows, games, and more.

Booking excursions easily right from the ship is another reason why cruises are a nice way to go. The ship will have an excursion desk where you can go to book all your off-ship excursions. Of course, the excursions are an extra cost, but to have one place to go to book excursions is worth the time and effort you will save... especially on your first vacation to Hawaii. You don't want to waste time looking around on land for things to do... you want to just do them!

So, as you can see, there are many great reasons why you ought to take a Hawaii cruise, especially if you're a first timer. If you've never been to Hawaii, this is the way to go. You are able to visit multiple islands, cruises are all-inclusive, and they make booking excursions very convenient. There's a good chance that you'll want to take another Hawaii cruise once it's over... or you might find the one island that you loved and want to go back to again.

No matter what you decide, you'll be very happy you decided to take a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands!

Keeping Rabbits Out of Your Garden

Rabbits are wonderful to watch in the wild, scampering about their daily business without a care innt acts like a threat and they won't venture out into the open where they might be seen. For a the world, but when they set up home in or near your prize vegetable patch the unlucky gardener will realise what a handful they can be. Rabbits love tasty vegetables, shrubs and even some trees and for such small creatures they have a huge appetite for destruction.

Getting rid of rabbits can be tricky. Once they've found a good food source they'll keep coming back and as the old saying tells us rabbits are numerous and tend to multiply. If there are no real predators you could find yourself overrun within weeks.

There are however a few tricks you can try before you take more drastic action. Firstly you could try removing what it is that the rabbits find so tasty. Sacrifice these plants and plant some nasty-tasting ones instead. This is all very well if you don't really mind what you grow, but for gardeners who have put effort into their favourite vegetables may not be an ideal solution. You'll also have to research which plants are good and which are bad, so you don't end up having the opposite effect!

Rabbits love to eat clover as well as your plants, so you could try sowing a clover field outside your garden. If you're lucky, this will act as a firebreak and absorb the hungry rabbits before they make it as far as your garden.

You could invest in a cat or a dog to try and scare the rabbits away. Introducing a predator into your garden should keep them out, but this means letting your pet roam around your garden. You may find animal droppings in your vegetable patch! If you have a dog you need to make sure that your garden is secure.

If you want to protect your flowers you could try sprinkling them with something bad-tasting, like chilli powder. This will put any smart rabbit off eating them, but you'll have to reapply the substance after it rains. You won't want to do this to your vegetables however, unless you like very spicy food!

Some people say that hanging shiny objects and things with moving parts around your garden will keep pests like rabbits away. The moveme cheap method, try hanging up CDs on a bit of string.

Getting Ready for Polished Concrete Flooring

Dealing with polished concrete floors is something that most people might not be well clued about. The reasons for this vary from the fact that the polished floors require a lot of technical knowledge to the fact that many people prefer to think of the whole process of polishing the floors as a process that is not suited to the everyday person. However, it is important for any home owner who is using the polished concrete floors to know how the polished floor is achieved when all is said and done.

First of all, it is very important to know that concrete can actually be polished to a rather highly shining spectacle for a nice looking floor which will not need waxing or coating for that matter. One can decide to simply grind the new floors or simply deal with the old floors to achieve a rather high gloss finish. At the end of the day, the polished floor will look something like some kind of polished stone, no wonder it is used as a decorative means in many places.

A polished concrete floor is achieved using sanding pads and some grinder which are used until such a time when the surface is smooth, glossy and attractive. There are several places that find this kind of polished concrete flooring quite useful for instance certain show rooms and retail shops as well as homes, restaurants and other such places. Contrary to what most people think, the polished concrete floors are not as slippery as compared to other surfaces like polished marble or linoleum.

In general, most floors can actually be polished but just in case the surface is somewhat new, it is recommended that you leave it for a minimum of 4 or 5 weeks before you can actually think of polishing it. A concrete floor that is already in place might need some thorough cleaning to prepare it for the concrete polishing. It is important however, to consult a professional about what is best for their floor before you decide to polish the floor of your home or office.

There are instances when the floor that is already in place needs some kind of solidification before the polishing is done. In such a case, the surface will require that it be solidified and densified which will call for a professional to use some penetrating hardeners onto the concrete. In a typical scenario of concrete polishing, it happens after just the first stage of the process of grinding.

The chemical process that takes place inside the concrete is complex but in simple terms, the hardeners end up reacting with the concrete and leading to some kind of crystalline structure. The hardeners also create a sense of protection from penetration of water and staining as well as dusting of the concrete. Thereafter, the polishing of the floor is done and this can be either wet or dry even thought in some cases, it is a combination of both methods.

You Don't Need to Beat Your Competitors - Let Them Do it Themselves

You probably have that training partner who is not incredibly fast in the group workouts but is always delivering when it comes to race performance - beating the people in races that beat him in training.

When I was in Hawaii for the Ironman World Championships last month I had a pre-race meeting with one of my athletes, Luiz Topan. Luiz went on to place 4th in his competitive M40-44 age group.

Luiz had tracked all the M40-44 competitors across all Ironman Hawaii qualifiers that were fit enough to break 9hrs20. According to him, there were 16 guys in his age group that had a good chance to place Top 5 in Hawaii. I didn't agree. I said that only a third, or five to six guys, could be a threat.

And here's the reason. When it comes to racing a big event - be it your first triathlon, first Ironman or the World Championships - a lot of athletes just overdo it.

It is part of the type-A nature of a triathlete. Most can't hold back when needed which often results in two scenarios:

1) DNS (did not start!)

In most cases a DNS is a result of injuries. Training too hard too close to your big race is a mistake. If you really want to perform on that specific day, you should be training "hard" for months and months before it - even years depending on what your goals are.

Doing a six-week training camp will only create a load that your body is not used to. And those athletes training for Kona tend to get back into training too soon and train too hard since most Kona qualifiers are in the summer. It is extremely difficult for a working age grouper, in many ways, to do two Ironman preparations in such a short time bracket.

Another common reason for a DNS is that athletes put too much pressure on themselves, which kills their confidence and they just quit the race before they have even started. Athletes might compare their training performance to previous weeks, realize that they are going slower which can be a result of deep fatigue instead of a lack of fitness per se or life circumstances that are not 100% optimal and think it is better to just wait for another opportunity.

2) Underperforming on race day

Pacing is the biggest cause of underperformance on race day. For a specific group of athletes - especially those looking for a breakthrough race - it is even acceptable that they might "bonk". If an athlete is willing to risk the relative certainty of an average result for the chance at something they haven't achieved yet, they will need to walk a very fine line. And many times they will cross that line, never recovering and finishing the race much slower than they should have been able to, based on their level of fitness.

The other reason for underperformance on race day is that athletes start the race drained of mental or physical energy. Race-week anxiety will take a lot of energy from your competitors. Most get to the start line fit but very tired, and as a result they can't deliver the performance they would have been capable of - had they controlled their nerves and kept their routine simple and effective.

So for the next time you look at the start list of a race, don't be afraid of so many big names with fast races in their CV: a lot of those athletes won't even make it to the start line while another group will under-perform, guaranteed! Just make sure you control the controllable and stay in the performance group!

Knowing the Verizon Cell Phone Test

Verizon wireless is known to boast the most reliable wireless network in the States. Verizon wireless and data customers number over forty five million people and naturally this number is destined to grow. That’s why the company backs up its reliability claim by investing over four billion dollars in expanding and improving its service every year.

Changes to the network makeup since the early days of cellular, before Verizon cell phone service went by that name, have turned it into a fully digital system. For them the word ‘cellular’ only exists as a pop culture expression. Being fully digital Verizon cell phone clients were amongst the first in the nation able to perform now common place tasks such as sending text messages, swapping pictures and downloading ring tones.

Verizon cell phone customers, as it turns out, use these features a lot. They send over twenty million pictures wirelessly every month to each other and to people on other networks. They are also responsible for the downloading over of fifty million games, ring tones and applications since April 2005. This is accomplished hrough the company’s twenty three thousand cell sites and over a hundred and fifty switching facilities on a network that can reach two hundred and fifty million Americans.

To claim the best and most reliable service in the country they put themselves through a constant state of testing. In its now famous ad campaign, the Verizon cell phone test man walks the country ensuring his connection is never lost. This commercial was born out of an actual testing process the verizon cell phone network goes through every week of every year.

The company as a whole employs fifty two thousand employees. The little known fact is that some of those employees are real life test men and test women who do just what the guy in the commercials does. They travel in a specially equipped van with cell phones, making and receiving calls and checking to see if the connection cuts and, if so, for how long. Verizon is so proud of their ongoing quality checks and measurements that an entire section of their corporate web site is dedicated to honoring the actual workers who travel the country performing these tests.

An average testing van can travel over three thousand miles in a given month. Their tests are simultaneously conducted all across the country in a program that collectively travels a hundred thousand miles a month on the nation’s most frequented roadways. All the while their testers make well over three hundred thousand test calls.

Their claims of having the best network is calculated by considering the number of calls that were lost or couldn’t go through compared the those that succeeded without problems. In the end they have proven time and again that the Verizon cell phone network [http://www.dixiejournal.com/category/technology-news] is easily the most trust worthy network around.

The Truth About Hard Body Success Is Revealed!

Hard Body Success is the new book written by Scott Abbett which claims to be the answer to all man's fitness problems. The revolutionary book gives tips on how to considerably improve body physique whilst spending just 2% of your time each month exercising.

There are countless advertisements for 'get-fit-quick' schemes. Some are machines, others are books, and others are videos. The fact of the matter is the fitness market is a very large one and there is a lot of competition to gain the approval of users and boost sales.

So if there are so many competitors out there all offering a similar service, what is it that makes Hard Body Success different to its competitors? I mean, it has the same testimonials from made-up characters who have found the book to be wonderfully helpful in giving them their perfect body. Some of them have miraculously found physique overnight. But despite its sceptics, Hard Body Success does have its undeniably unique and revolutionary ways.

For example, the book dwells on mental techniques to achieve fitness, which is always vitally underestimated when it comes to fitness. Secondly Hard Body Success is more specific than other such publications. I mean that it's not 'one size fits all' generic stuff crammed into a few pages; the writer makes sure to touch on techniques for most physiques and lifestyles even if it takes him longer overall to write the book.

Whether Hard Body Success is worth the full cost is questionable, but at the half price cost being offered on the website, Hard Body Success is a worthwhile purchase for those who want a complete physical and psychological workout.

The main thing that might appeal to a reader when studying Hard Body Success is how frank the writer is with his audience. This may make them feel that he is simply one of them and they too can have a body like he does. On the flipside, it could also be a turn off for a reader who was looking for a more official read.

Scott Abbett always gets straight to the point when describing the stepping stones to a great body. Hard Body Success is a no nonsense guide to getting fit with the minimum of effort. This may lead some readers to question how believable this publication really is, because everyone knows that it takes a lot of hard work to get your self fit. But obviously no one told Scott Abbett this as he maintains his rugged stance on the road to fitness.

Space, Time, Physics, and Possibilities - A Book Review

Understanding spacetime physics isn't easy, but understanding the basic theories that scientists now believe paint the most realistic picture isn't that hard to comprehend. It just takes the curiosity and the patience to focus, open your mind, and consider. But first you are going to need a good book, one which is illustrated. Also a physics reference book which can walk you through all of Einstein's theories along with others who have added new concepts to the sciences of space/time physics.

Luckily, I own such a book, one which was published in 1966. You may think that is too old, and that we've learned a lot since then. And yes, yes we have, but the fundamentals are relatively the same, especially when it comes to "relativity" or the theory of. Now then, the book I'd like to recommend to you is:

"Spacetime Physics" by Edwin F. Taylor and John Archibald Wheeler, W.H. Freeman Company Publishers, San Francisco, CA, (1966), 208 pages, Library of Congress Card Catalogue Number 65-13566.

Both of the authors are/were physicists, one from MIT, and the other from Princeton. The book starts out with a discussion on the geometry of spacetime, and all the theories, rules, principles, and unknowns which go along with that. Then it gets right into momentum and energy; how they relate to mass, and the expanding universe - and there is a rare find - an absolutely fascinating dialogue on the concept of mass, light, and the arguments of spacetime physics, at least at the time in 1966. Some of which has been resolved but not all the points of view are agreed upon - humans still have more to learn.

If you've been stuck on anything with relation to Einstein's theories or are hung up on curved spacetime, gravity warping, or the differences in force, mass, or the principles of relativity - you will be quite pleased to have most all of your questions answered. Those which cannot be answered or at least could not be answered back in 1966 are not there, but you will have a great understanding up until that point, and be able to ask the right questions to continue your personal research online.

My favorite points in the book were the reasoning of the various paradoxes of time, space, energy, motion, light, and so on. It's just a really fun place to think, and this book will take your mind around the universe and back, as well as through time and back again, and thus, I come to you with this excellent book recommendation. So, please consider all this and think on it.

Thoroughbred Horse Racing Basics

For the beginner, thoroughbred horse racing can be quite confusing at first. First, you must learn about the different types of races in a typical race meeting.

The types are listed as follows: Maiden, Claiming, Allowance, Handicap and Stakes. These categories are designed to make the races more evenly competitive.

Maiden

Maiden races are for horses who have never won and can be the most difficult to handicap due to their short race histories. These horses are generally very young and erratic in these races. Many handicappers go to the family tree method to try and choose a winner here.

Claiming

Claiming races are the most common and horses will compete at different claiming amounts depending on their class. These horses may be claimed before the beginning of these races.

Allowance

Allowance races are for horses which race infrequently and cannot be claimed.

Handicap

The handicap races are usually high class races where horses of varying ages compete against each other and are given weight handicaps depending on the age of the horse. The older stronger horses are given the heavier weights to make this a more even match.

Stakes

Stakes races are for the highest class of horses and have very high purses. These are annual races such as the Kentucky Derby, Preakness or Belmont Stakes.

Each of the above mentioned types of races can be run at different distances. A race run at 7 furlongs or less is commonly known as a sprint. Races of a mile or more are known as routes.

By learning the types of races, you can see how they will group horses in a race in order to make the races more even. This should give you a feel for some of the thoroughbred horse racing basics that can help you become a better handicapper.

How to Track Your Tax Deduction on Donations With ItsDeductible

No one enjoys paying taxes. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can cut your overall tax liability, from 401k's to HSA's for medical expenses, to charitable donations. Taking your gently used clothes, furniture, electronics, or other valuables to charities like Goodwill or The Salvation army is not only a great way to clear out your house and apartment, it goes to help a lot of people who both work for the charities and shop at the stores. When it comes time to file your taxes, it can be difficult to dig up all of the receipts, records, or even remember all of the items that you donated. Luckily, I stumbled upon ItsDeducible, which will automatically track your tax deduction on donations and also estimate the fair market value of your donations to give you an estimate of how much it will save on your taxes. The best part, is that at the end of the year, you can export the list or import it directly into TurboTax to save tons of time.

Disclaimer: I am not a licensed tax professional and this is intended to be general advice. For specific advice, please consult a licensed CPA or tax official.

With that out of the way, lets get started.

Before you rush off to take your items to the closest donation center, you will want to do some organization. It will save you some time and ensure that you are getting the maximum benefit from your donations, and it may save you from accidentally donating something that can be repaired, sold, or converted into another useful household item.

Gather up items to donate

Sort the items into similar piles based on their type. Clothes should be broken out into different types of pants, shirts, shoes, or other categories. Other items can simply be grouped by whatever logical system makes the most sense. Its helpful if you have your computer or laptop handy for the next step.

Estimate your tax deduction on donations

Sign up for an account over at ItsDeductible, and create a new donation to start adding items. For each item, do a quick search for the generic category and then find the specific item that you want to donate, which will give you a value for both High quality and Medium quality. Obviously donating items that are in the "High" category will give you the biggest benefit, but if its a useful item that another person would find helpful, donate it. Low quality items that don't meet the minimum standard can easily be repurposed into rags for using around the house or working on a bike, motorcycle, or car.

After entering the items into ItsDeductible, print out one or two copies of the list to take with you when you donate.

Take the items to the donation center

When you get to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or your charity of choice, simply hand them the items and ask that they stamp your pre-printed list. This will be very easy for them, will have all the item values, and the person helping you should be very appreciative of your consolidated list, especially if you bring them an extra copy.

When you get home, file away the stamped list in a secure document folder to be able to reference in the even you ever get audited. As soon as tax time rolls around, it should be really simple to import your list into TurboTax and get your tax benefit.

What you will want to keep

High end sports equipment (road bikes, golf clubs, etc) Designer fashion items or accessories (Louis Vuitton or equivalent) Larger appliances and furniture in good condition (many charities will come take these away for you) Cars or other vehicles (there are special charities for cars) Any item where the estimated value exceeds $5000 (items over this value will need a qualified appraisal)

Some of the more expensive items are actually very easy to sell in resale shops or through Craigslist, which is generally going to be a better option than donating. You could split the profits between yourself and a non-profit of your choice if you want to satisfy your conscience.

Any other tips for dealing with charitable donations? Leave a comment.
